Where possible, the Aurender N30SA should be connected to the dCS system via USB. This will provide the highest level of sound quality, above synchronous interfaces such as AES or S/PDIF. Using USB also makes the setup and usage of the system the easiest, as there are fewer cables and settings to configure correctly.
- Follow the Aurender User Guide to correctly setup the Aurender N30SA - this can be found on the Aurender website here.
- As per the Aurender User Guide, connect the N30SA to the network by connecting an Ethernet cable from the Network port to the router (or network switch if one is being used between the N30SA and the router). The Aurender Conductor app will be required to configure the N30SA.
Connection via USB
- Connect a USB-A to USB-B cable from the USB Audio port on the N30SA to the USB-B port on the dCS product.
- Navigate to the Settings menu, then to the Advanced menu:
- Turn the Use Native DSD Output option off - the USB input on a dCS DAC requires DSD over PCM (DoP).
- If there is a dCS master clock connected to the DAC, set the DAC to the USB input. Open the menu, either via the front panel or via the Mosaic app, and navigate to Unit Settings -> Sync Mode, and change this setting to Wordclock Auto:

- If there is no dCS master clock connected to the DAC, set the DAC to the USB input. Open the menu, either via the front panel or via the Mosaic app, and navigate to Unit Settings -> Sync Mode, and change this setting to Master Mode:

- To connect the N30SA to a Varèse Music System, the Varèse Core needs to have the Digital I/O Module installed. This can be arranged through your dCS dealer. Once the USB cable has been connected from the USB Audio port on the N30SA to the USB-B port on the Varèse Core, no other settings (like sync mode) need to be changed. Simply select the USB input via the User Interface or the Mosaic ACTUS app and begin listening.
Connection via AES
- Connect the AES/EBU port of the N30SA to one of the available AES ports on the dCS system.
If this is a Vivaldi system, this port should be on the Vivaldi Upsampler if available, as the Upsampler will increase the sound quality of the system. - Navigate to the Settings menu, then to the Advanced menu:
- Ensure Upsample All Outputs (Except USB) is turned off:
- Next, you should use a clock cable to connect the N30A's WCLOCK port to a clock output in your dCS system. Which dCS product connects to the Aurender's WCLOCK port will depend on which products you have available:
For Varèse Music Systems
To connect to a Varèse Music System, the Varèse Core will need the Digital I/O Module installed. This can be arranged through your dCS dealer.
- The AES cable can be connected to any of the AES inputs available on the Varèse Core Digital I/O Module.
If there is already a separate source connected to the Varèse Core Digital I/O Module that requires Dual AES, leave that source connected to AES 1 and 2. Connect the Aurender N30SA to AES3.
If there is no Dual AES source in the system, the N30SA can be connected to any of the three AES ports. - Connect the Clock Out of the Varèse Core Digital I/O Module to the WCLOCK port on the N30SA.
- Set the Sync Mode setting for the Varèse Core Digital I/O Module AES input the N30SA is connected to to Master Mode.
- In the Aurender Conductor app, navigate to Settings -> Advanced -> Sync with External Clock. Turn this setting On.
For Systems with a Rossini Clock:
An Aurender RS232 Dongle for dCS will be required. This dongle connects to the RS232 port of the Rossini Clock, and automatically adjusts the output frequency of the clock output fed to the N30SA. This is not a dCS product, and should be sourced from your Aurender dealer who can install it correctly for you.
- Connect Wordclock Output 3 of the Rossini Clock to WCLOCK on the N30SA.
- Connect the RS232 dongle to the Rossini Clock. Set the RS232 Mode in the Rossini Clock to Binary.
- In the Aurender Conductor app, navigate to Settings -> Advanced -> Sync with External Clock. Turn this setting On.
For Systems with a Vivaldi Clock:
An Aurender RS232 Dongle for dCS will be required. This dongle connects to the RS232 port of the Rossini Clock, and automatically adjusts the output frequency of the clock output fed to the N30SA. This is not a dCS product, and should be sourced from your Aurender dealer who can install it correctly for you.
- Connect any of the Vivaldi Clock's to WCLOCK on the N30SA.
- Connect the RS232 dongle to the Rossini Clock. Set the RS232 Mode in the Vivaldi Clock to Binary.
- In the Aurender Conductor app, navigate to Settings -> Advanced -> Sync with External Clock. Turn this setting On.
For Systems with a Bartók DAC, Rossini DAC or Player, or a Vivaldi DAC or One:
- Connect the Clock Out of the dCS DAC to the WCLOCK port on the N30SA.
- Set the input of the dCS DAC to the same AES input the N30SA has been connected to.
- Open the menu of the DAC, either via the front panel or via the Mosaic app. Navigate to Unit Settings -> Sync Mode, and change this setting to Master Mode:
- In the Aurender Conductor app, navigate to Settings -> Advanced -> Sync with External Clock. Turn this setting On.
For Systems with a Lina DAC or Lina DAC X:
For systems without a Rossini or Vivaldi Clock using a Lina DAC or Lina DAC X, there is not a compatible clock connection to use between the DAC and the N30SA. As such, it is highly recommended to use the USB connection, as the sound quality will be significantly better. If USB is unavailable to use, for example as you have another source already connected to USB:
- Set the input of the DAC to same AES input that the N30SA has been connected to.
- Open the menu of the DAC, either via the front panel or via the Mosaic app. Navigate to Unit Settings -> Sync Mode, and change this setting to Audio Sync:
- In the Aurender Conductor app, navigate to Settings -> Advanced -> Sync with External Clock. Turn this setting Off.
